TOMORROW NEVER CAME is the second installment of the trilogy inspired by Mother Teresa’s quote: “Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.” It is loosely based on Bryan’s experiences during the fall semester at George Mason University. The story was influenced by news that circulated within the Vietnamese student club, which left a lasting impression on him.
While researching the subject matter, Bryan discovered the article “The Words My Father Said to Me When I Was Suicidal,” a memoir by Chris Lee published on The Mighty and Yahoo!. He reached out to Chris directly and received permission to incorporate select elements of the article into the screenplay.
The title reflects Bryan’s admiration for Justin Lin’s Better Luck Tomorrow and the support it received from renowned film critic Roger Ebert in 2002. Although the titles share the word Tomorrow, the screenplay bears no similarity in characters or plot to Lin’s film.
