It’s a strange thing to realize and accept your own maturity at a tender age—sometimes it’s a truth you quietly ignore. Over the past few months, Nelle has spent countless hours reflecting on life, pondering its complexities. Then she met Ally.
As their conversations unfold, Ally helps Nelle shift her perspective. She encourages Nelle not to get caught up in life’s meaningless stresses, reminding her that everyone shares the same fate. Instead, what matters is making time feel meaningful, taking care of it, and embracing just how extraordinary life can be.
TODAY (originally the title was SIGHT UNSEEN) is the first installment of the trilogy inspired by Mother Teresa’s quote: “Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.”. The story was originally inspired by Bryan’s admiration for the 1994 film The Man in the Moon, starring a 15-year-old Reese Witherspoon.
The script was initially written for a 10-minute play competition in 1995 and submitted to the Chicago Dramatists Workshop for their summer festival. Bryan didn’t give it much thought—until he received a call confirming its selection. In 2017 some 22 years later, he revisited the material and adapted it into a short film, giving the story a new cinematic life.
